Today is International Merlot Day! Merlot is a most delightful red wine that comes from a dark blue-colored grape. The name is derived from the word merle, the French name for “blackbird”. In 2004, the movie “Sideways” did a some hefty damage to the proud varietal with one sentence, “"If anyone orders Merlot, I'm leaving, I am NOT drinking any (expletive) Merlot!" That movie sent shock waves that had merlot sales plummeting and pinot noir sales skyrocketing. Even now, merlot makers still are coming back from that pop culture zinger. So, what do you say we do our part to support the industry and winemakers and celebrate and learn a little about this iconic varietal?
The Curious Palate is a tasting experience that is designed for the taster who wants to take their personal wine (or spirits) experience to a new level by building knowledge...while having fun! What is the difference between drinking and tasting...and does it matter? How does what’s in your glass pair with food? How can you elevate any event with a little more flavor? While we take our studies and classes seriously, we strive to make each tasting delightful and dynamic!
To keep your curiosity piqued, the location of this tasting experience will be released to participants about 5 days before the event. But, never fear, this event is in Colorado Springs! This experience is a 90 minute tasting adventure beginning at 6:00pm and includes friendly and professional instruction, tasting of 4 wines paired with food bites, and a takeaway note sheet. Space is limited; advanced paid reservations are required.
