It is often assumed that Malbec is from Argentina. But, it’s actually from France where it is commonly used as a blending grape (rather than a top solo variety) because of its poor resistance to weather and pests. But it thrives in Mendoza, Argentina where a nostalgic French botanist planted it by order of the mayor in 1868. Today, Argentina leads with over 75% of all the acres of Malbec in the world. In a way, Argentina reinvigorated Malbec as one of the top 18 noble grapes. Now it grows in seven countries and continues to grow in popularity and it has it’s very own holiday….YES, APRIL 17th IS WORLD MALBEC DAY! This tasting, we will play with several styles from around the world that reflect the diversity of this beloved variety.
The Curious Palate is a tasting experience that is designed for the taster who wants to take their personal wine (or spirits) experience to a new level by building knowledge...while having fun! What is the difference between drinking and tasting...and does it matter? How does what’s in your glass pair with food? How can you elevate any event with a little more flavor? While we take our studies and classes seriously, we strive to make each tasting delightful and dynamic!
To keep your curiosity piqued, the location of this tasting experience will be released to participants about 5 days before the event. But, never fear, this event is in Colorado Springs! This experience is a 90 minute tasting adventure beginning at 6:00pm and includes friendly and professional instruction, tasting of 4 wines paired with food bites, and a takeaway note sheet. Space is limited; advanced paid reservations are required.
